I know the Japanese version is coming in Spring 2011, but Play-Asia just listed the “US” version for pre-orders, saying it’s available in March 2011. Don’t they usually take at least 6 months to localize stuff?

To answer your question, yes, it seems to take around that amount of time to localize these things.
Square Enix supposedly has their foot on the gas for this one though. Localization, from what I’ve read will take a lot less time than normal for this game.
To answer the question you didn’t ask, but we all know you wanted answered; No one knows when the localized version will be out. You are right however, even Amazon has a placeholder up for the 31st of March.

It is normal for these website to put up a placeholder for the product when they have time, and then update the information as they receive it. The business/money guys are separate from the web/coder guys, you see? It’s not really going to come out in March, BUT maybe… keep your fingers crossed, and keep checking that link!
