the verse should read “In the beginning the Gods created the heavens and the earth”. And “And the gods made man in their own image” etc.
Elohim is translated as ‘Gods’ throughout the rest of the book when it speaks of other nations gods of course. lol
Of course there is no history at all of ancient Hebrew trinitarians but loads for ancient Hebrew polytheist. But hey, if you are a christian, you do not include facts into your position.

Genesis also said that the word was with God, and the word was God. Jesus is the word, and it also says his spirit was over the waters. There’s 3 right there, and we haven’t even gotten to the New Testament yet!!

After the doctrine was decided, theologians went back through the Bible looking for verses that could retroactively be counted as support for it. That’s one of the verses that was picked. Modern Christians just parrot what they heard in church about it.
Biblical historians know that the story dates from a time when multiple gods were recognized.

I have used this charge for years. It always run into the recitation of scriptures that were written to support what it is they want supported. Circular reasoning which is all based on wishful assumptions of individuals hoping to keep their faith looking intelligent. A call to using bigger hammers and pure delusional thinking to make it all fit.
