Problem from ghost: Why does my former Indian sociology professor say that Aryan invaders in the north of India were white people?
just like “us”. Our class was all white. But then the history channel says they are dark people. But then again my former anthropology professor who is originally from Latvia, and went to Chicago University…said the Aryan invaders of northern India were white Europeans. Is my former university wrong, or is the history channel? My anthropology professor has been on the History Channel, so he’s no fool.
I also heard that Buddha had red hair. Is there any proof in the Vedas of this?

The Aryan invasion was a cultural migration. Invasion is an overstatement.
There was heavy inbreeding between Aryan and Dravidian. Less tan 1% of India’s population can be considered either pure Aryan or pure Dravidian.

I don’t have any information about the Buddha question. Aryans were white blue eyed and usually over 6 feet tall. Hitler was in awe of the Aryan race, if he had it his way the world would be a better place if it were all Aryan. The history channel may have been referring to the people of India not the Aryans.

I don’t know where Idolmaker gets his facts. The Aryans, and many other people from India, are Caucasians, not Negroes. As such, they are “white” people. However, because India is so close to the equator, there is evolutionary pressure to encourage dark skin. A former room mate of mine was such a person. He was “white” but almost as dark as my landlady, who was an American Negro.
When humans migrate into the northern areas of the planet and are there long enough, the need for vitamin D (to prevent, e.g., rickets) puts survival pressure on the organisms to lighten their skin color. This happens over generations, not right away (though anyone can get a tan). But, there is no absolute requirement that a “white” person have creamy-colored skin or blue eyes. Many Caucasians are very dark.

Till modern times Indian history (that includes Pakistan) was replete with marauders from beyond the north western mountain ranges. Mostly they came through many mountain passes; the prominent ones are ‘Khyber’& ‘Bolan’.
Aryans were the earliest of these marauders. They didn’t come all the way from Europe to sneek into India but were resident on the othe side of the divide. Your information is at the best c o c k eyed.
Another goof-up is the Buddha and the Vedas.
Vedas were compiled much earlier and no date was arrived about when they were compiled. History and times of Buddha were clearly documented as he came much later, in sixth century BC.

The History channel is generally wrong.
The Aryans began in Europe went conquering. Their bloodline is best preserved in Afghanistan. Afghanis are dark skinned, but blue eyes are not uncommon.
From there the Aryans went to India via the Kyber Pass. I don’t know how “white” they were by the time they reached India, but it is believed their pallor became the basis of the racist caste system.

Your professor is incorrect on many fronts.
Firstly there was never an Aryan invasion. It was a gradual influx of Indo-european speakers into the Indian subcontinent. Indo-european languages were simply adopted by the indigenous people (who were not killed by invaders).
These people weren’t white europeans. Even if they were, they would lose their European character over such a long journey. They were probably Central Asian people who looked like the Afghan girl from the famous National Geographic cover.
Buddha had curly hair. The Vedas were composed much before Buddha’s birth. So no proof.

who are you going to believe, the TV or your professor. the same history channel that plays shows about aliens and bigfoot all day,
the term Aryan before Hitler, was a way to categorize people who spoke languages of the indo-European lineage. Iran and Aryan come from the same root word. go to the aryan wikipedia page.
one of the things about history is that we cant get it all right, we dont know what happend back them, people just make best guesses.
