Problem created by Leo: Young Earth Creationists: What would God “putting light from distant stars there to trick us” achieve?

Your God is supposedly NOT the author of confusion. So why, when responding to the statement that light from galaxies billions of years ago disproves the young-earth theory, do so many of you claim that God “put that light there to trick us”? Even if you sidestep and say that instead it was Satan who is trying to trick us, what exactly would that achieve for him? What good reasoning would Satan have for trying to make people think the Earth is old?

I imagine that any God strange enough to try and pull off the whole “Ahahaha! The Earth is way younger than all you stupid atheists believe! Got you!” would need to get his kicks from somewhere.

Sigh.

I think this is the 3rd or 4th time this has came up in the past 4 hours or so. This question has been roundly debunked time and time again by the popular creation scientists. If you want the detailed explanation, please visit one of their sites.

Light from stars means nothing. It isn’t “god trying to trick you,” it is mankind using a faulty method of dating.

Why would you make the assumption that time has remained constant? Why would make the assumption that the speed of light has remained constant? Why would you make all of these assumptions?

Just 10 years or so ago, textbooks said the universe was millions (or billions) of years younger. Why do you keep changing the goalpost??

Answer by Jim
First, God didn’t do anything to trick us. He doesn’t need to do that. Just because someone said He did does not make it true. Just because there is a question about the universe that we can’t answer doesn’t mean there isn’t an answer. God didn’t tell us exactly how He accomplished everything He did. He doesn’t have to.

But what does Satan have to gain from making people think the earth is old? Everything. Just like evolution, an old earth contradicts the Bible. Satan’s goal is to get people to not believe what the Bible says. So by promoting things like an old earth or evolution he can lead people away from God under the guise of intelligence.

Be sure much better?
